The critical mission of the StopWoodfin.org coalition is to prevent the forced annexation of our area of Buncombe County by the Town of Woodfin.
Secondly, our mission is to see that legislation is enacted in Raleigh that will prevent this cruel action from ever being imposed upon the citizens of North Carolina again.
That the state of North Carolina has been for years one of only a handful of states in the United States that allows for forced annexation of properties by municipalities is a shameful legacy. That a judge can rule the petition process unconstitutional shows deep lack of understanding of the 2011 annexation reform law. Or is it just plain corruption and cronyism at work here?
Not allowing citizens the right to self-determination violates the principles upon which this country was founded, and furthermore, it flies in the face of our own North Carolina constitution, which states:
Sovereignty of the peopleAll political power is vested in and derived from the people; all government of right originates from the people, is founded upon their will only, and is instituted solely for the good of the whole. -- Article 1, Sec. 2.
